Rod & Rifle Tackleworld Katherine

You can hear Trent’s story at the Stronger together: Katherine business dinner, featuring Brett Blake in Katherine on Friday 16 October 2026.
Trent de With is a born-and-bred Katherine local, business owner and outdoor enthusiast who leads Rod & Rifle Tackleworld Katherine, one of the Northern Territory’s best-known regional fishing, camping, firearms and outdoor retail businesses.
Rod & Rifle has been part of the Katherine community for more than 40 years and has been owned and operated by the de With family for more than 3 decades. Growing up in Katherine, Trent spent much of his life fishing, camping and exploring the rivers and bush of the Top End, developing a genuine passion for the Territory outdoor lifestyle that remains central to both his life and the business today.
Before joining Rod & Rifle, Trent worked for several years as an automation electrician in Darwin. In 2017, he returned to Katherine and joined the family business, bringing with him a willingness to challenge the way things had traditionally been done and look for new opportunities to grow and evolve the business.
Since then, Rod & Rifle has experienced significant growth while continuing to operate proudly from Katherine. Trent has helped broaden the business beyond its traditional foundations, introducing new product categories, investing in e-commerce and digital systems, and embracing social media as a way to communicate directly and authentically with customers both locally and across Australia.
For Trent, embracing change has been essential to succeeding in regional business. Operating from Katherine brings challenges including distance, freight, staffing and a relatively small local population, but Trent has always believed that being regional does not have to limit what a business can achieve. By continually adapting, trying new ideas and finding new ways to reach customers, Rod & Rifle has grown while remaining firmly connected to the community that has supported it for decades.
Community remains an important part of Trent’s approach to business and life. He credits the support of Katherine and the wider Territory as a major part of Rod & Rifle’s success and believes successful local businesses have an important role to play in giving back and helping regional communities thrive.
Despite its growth and evolution, Rod & Rifle remains proudly family owned, locally operated and closely connected to the people it serves. Trent’s focus is on continuing to grow and innovate without losing the personality, customer service, family values and genuine connection to the Territory lifestyle that have made Rod & Rifle what it is today.
