Channel Nine’s local parent company is appropriately called Territory Television, founded by a group of Darwin businessmen in 1969. The station began broadcasting in November 1971 and has continued to grow through support of local industry - and through its community involvement - in the years since, rebuilding along with the city in the wake of the devastation of Cyclone Tracy.
Originally called Channel Eight, the company’s subsequent owners, Nine Network, changed the brand and programming to Channel Nine in 2003 and continues to bring the only commercial news to Darwin though its massive resources across Australia and the world. Our local newsroom ensures Darwin gets a view of events and happenings across the Northern Territory, while Australia gets to know of them through us as well.
In media terms, Nine continues to invest in its local presence and commitment and provides a valuable advertising vehicle to clients across the business spectrum that is overseen and advised by Darwin people here in Darwin - not handed off to teams outside our market who don’t understand the Territory or its business cycle.
Territory Television means just that - it’s our Territory.
Territory Q was established 11 years ago by Anya Lorimer to promote the Northern Territory as a good place to live, work and invest.
It was at first aimed exclusively at business people, but has evolved and is now read by a wide cross-section of the population. The magazine is also read interstate and in South-East and East Asia.
Territory Q is published every quarter and distributed free. More than 4,000 readers, including the heads of many of Australia’s largest companies, have applied to be put on the magazine’s mailing list. TQ, as it has become affectionately known, is also placed in strategic outlets throughout the Territory. It is hand delivered in Katherine and Tennant Creek, and sent by barge to Nhulunbuy.
Territory Q is produced solely in the Northern Territory. All the writers, photographers, designers and distributors live in the NT, and the magazine is printed by an Alice Springs company.
Imparja Television, established in 1987, proudly broadcast the Nine Network throughout Regional Australia. Our broadcast area is now over 3.6 million square kilometres, spanning 7 states and territories with over 1.3 million resident viewers.
In the NT our transmission starts in parts of Noonamah and south from there we cover Dundee, Adelaide River, Katherine, Tennant Creek, Alice Springs and all country in between. North of Darwin we cover Nhulunbuy and all surrounding islands.
Imparja are an integral sponsor of many local events and initiatives including October Business Month, helping Territory businesses to connect, learn and inspire!
We hope all attendees enjoy the selection of keynote speakers this year, and the opportunity for professional development.
For over 70 years the NT News mandate has never changed, we still inform, inspire and advocate for a better Northern Territory.
