Paul Graham - Asbuild NT

Paul Graham remembers, as if it was yesterday, the moment he made one of the biggest decisions of his life – to go into business. He has no regrets.

Paul founded Asbuild in 2007 as a commercial construction company, but has since extended into developments, scaffolding, and wall and truss manufacturing. The Alice Springs-based company is also in a joint venture with Indigenous-owned Centrebuild, which focuses on remote housing. Centrebuild has a division called Territory Concrete Supplies, which provides remote concrete manufacturing throughout Central Australia. Paul believes Asbuild’s strength is its staff.

“I approach opportunities with confidence and am all about creating leaders. I believe we are well regarded in our industry and in our community.

“I love why we do what we do – we have been involved in numerous projects that benefit our community, from recreation, education, hospitality, health and, housing.

“I have always been quite a motivated person from a young age. What drives me is to not fail or, at least, not fail too hard and then learn when it happens.

“I have many people around me that are reliant on me, so I have to be a good leader.

“What inspires me is to make a positive difference in our community. I once had a young Indigenous fella tell me he is going to be the Indigenous Paul Graham when he’s older. That’s pretty cool.”

Paul maintains the company’s resilience by always being ready to learn and be responsive to change.

“We are only a small cog so if we need to change direction we can do it relatively efficiently. I am often analysing our environment to try to read the play to maintain a continual and stable work environment.”

Paul sees internal structure changes on the horizon for Asbuild.

“I would like to see myself doing more ‘helicopter viewing’ of each entity, rather than always being in the trenches.

“But business is like a wheelbarrow – if you don’t push it and steer it, it will not go anywhere.”

You can hear Paul’s story at the Carolyn Creswell: from Kitchen Table to Global Brand keynote event in Alice Springs on Wednesday 8 October 2025.
