SPEE3D
Steven (Steve) Camilleri, co-founder and CTO of SPEE3D, is a home-grown innovator, entrepreneur and disruptor. Alongside fellow founder and CEO Byron Kennedy, Steve pioneered a patented cold spray process for the high-speed 3D printing of metal parts, revolutionising industries and positioning the Territory as a global powerhouse for advanced manufacturing.
Today, SPEE3D’s fast metal additive manufacturing printers are revolutionising multiple industries, including Defence. Notably, the Australian, British, and US defence forces have adopted the technology to rapidly fabricate vital parts for military equipment within hours - compared to more traditional methods that often involve long waits for replacements or bring the challenge of dealing with obsolete parts.
More recently, in collaboration with the Australian Government, 3 WarpSPEE3D printers, along with comprehensive training, were delivered to Ukrainian soldiers and engineers to bolder the country’s defence capabilities amongst ongoing conflict.
Fuelled by out-of-the-box thinking, technical cleverness and investment in research and development, SPEE3D's success didn’t happen overnight. Reaching critical mass has taken over a decade of passionate commitment.
Steve says being able to do a lot with a little and believing that nothing is impossible has shaped the company’s trajectory.
"Our journey demonstrates that you can make it big from the Territory. We’re so proud to have spearheaded the development of metal additive manufacturing technology in the Top End. In the process, we contribute to the economy, open export markets, and create the jobs for the future."
