Leading Well: Evidence‑Based Self‑Care for Today’s Leaders

Small business owners and managers in the Northern Territory operate in a uniquely demanding environment - managing staff, compliance obligations, and service delivery, often in resource constrained settings.
Despite being the primary drivers of psychosocial health and safety within their workplaces, small business owners and managers are the least likely to access wellbeing supports for themselves.
The NT Managing Psychosocial Hazards at Work Code of Practice (2024) places a positive duty on persons conducting a business or undertaking (PCBUs) to proactively manage psychosocial risks - a duty that extends to the health and wellbeing of the PCBU themselves. Leaders who model self-care and recovery behaviours create measurably safer workplace cultures (Bakker & Leiter, 2010; Safe Work Australia, 2023).
This workshop directly responds to October Business Month's focus on building business resilience and sustainability by equipping small business owners and managers with evidence-based, practical self-care skills they can implement immediately.
Participants who complete this workshop will be able to:
- Identify key psychosocial hazards affecting small business owners and managers, with reference to the NT Managing Psychosocial Hazards at Work Code of Practice 2024
- Apply evidence-based self-care strategies across 5 wellbeing domains
- Develop a personalised, SMART self-care plan with peer accountability
- Articulate the relationship between leader self-care and workplace psychosocial safety culture
- Access NT-specific and national wellbeing resources relevant to their role.
