Aviation Safety Meets WHS: One Operation, Two Safety Frameworks is a practical training session examining how aviation safety regulation and work health and safety duties operate together across flight operations, maintenance, ground handling, aerodromes and contractor activities. 

The session will show that an effective aviation safety management system does not automatically address every workplace risk, and that a separate WHS system disconnected from operational aviation hazards can create duplication, gaps and conflicting controls. 

Using Northern Territory aviation scenarios, participants will examine fatigue, remote operations, human factors, maintenance, airside vehicle movements, hazardous substances, contractor interfaces and emergency response through both aviation and WHS lenses.

Through an interactive case study, participants will learn how to integrate hazard reporting, risk assessment, human factors, management of change, incident response and safety assurance without creating parallel systems that do not communicate.

The session will clarify where operational safety, worker safety and organisational governance intersect, what evidence demonstrates that controls are effective, and how managers and supervisors can coordinate responsibilities across aviation and workplace systems. The central message is that the aircraft, workforce and operating environment form one safety system—even where the applicable legal and regulatory duties come from different frameworks.
